Bug Description

I installed hardy with the dvd ubuntu 8.04 newly, bought in bookshop, but since I do not any more succeed in speeding up effects 3D, I always have the same message " effects 3D could not be speeded up ".
My graphic card is a nvidia geforce 6200 and here is information on my cpu :
AuthenticAMD, AMD Athlon(tm) Processor

 Number of CPUs: 1

CPU clock currently at 1001.805 MHz with 256 KB cache

 Numbering: family(6) model(4) stepping(2)

 Bogomips: 2006.23

Flags: fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 mmx fxsr syscall mmxext 3dnowext 3dnow up

I tried the manual installation of the pilots for the graphic card, but it did not give me a good result, I therefore installed envyng which found the appropriate drivers.

When I knock glxinfo |grep rendering in a terminal, I acquire : NVIDIA OpenGL Driver requires CPUs with SSE to run.

The current CPU does not support SSE.

Before I uses Ubuntu 7.10 version and I succeeded in speeding up effects 3D.

I read in a forum (http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=108074) that the problem seems to come from drivers nvidia recent who do not update more old processor amd / athlon without SSE, is it my case and it cannot he be resolved?

It is several days since I try to find help on the ubuntu forum, somebody comes suugérer me signal the bug on launchpad.

I hope to have succeeded in making understood myself, I no maitrise the Englishman no a lot and use a translator. Thank you in advance.

Amicably

This bug was reported against the linux-meta package when it likely should have been reported against the linux package instead. We are automatically transitioning this to the linux kernel package so that the appropriate teams are notified and made aware of this issue. Thanks.

Hi joseline,

Please be sure to confirm this issue exists with the latest development release of Ubuntu. ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ . Please then run following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 261601

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.
