[Intrepid] Manual partitioner is a bit basic

Bug Description

I find the manual partitioner on the Alpha 4 intrepid CD rather basic compared to the partitioners I've seen on other distros; both in terms of help provided to the user and of simple features.

My system had two clean discs (I'd just zero'd the first few blocks).

I was using the manual partitioner because I didn't want to use the whole disc (I wanted to leave some free space and a free paritition); that's probably not an unusual requirement and it seems excessive to have to go for a manual install with no help just because of that.

The manual install should provide an option to start with what would have been the recommended layout.

(This report previously also mentioned advising on a minimum size for /, which is now covered separately by bug 290928.)

I found being unable to change the size of a partition (one that I'd just said OK to, not one already on the disc) annoying; I'd created a 200MB /boot, 10G / and then 2G swap and at that point decided actually I could make / 15G - but I had to remove swap to do it; I'm fairly sure most other manual partitioner would have let me change sizes at that point easily.

I think the lack of help/starting point is a big issue - for example people who understand basic partitioning but don't know what a Linux system would like would find it hard to set up a dual boot system even if they understood their other OS well.

Just tried this on Maverick; I think most of my comments are still appropriate.
It might be best to split this bug up into individual suggestions though.
