Bug Description
Binary package hint: update-manager
Description: Ubuntu 8.04
Release: 8.04
during upgrade from 7.10 to 8.04, whenever the process sets up any locale file, the 'localedef" process gets to a state where it uses 99-100% CPU, and never finishes.
This is not the first time it happens to me during an upgrade from 7.10 to 8.04
The only solution I found was to manually kill the localdef process. Afterwards, any subsequent call to locales hangs, and I have to manually kill them all. Needless to say this does horrible damage to the upgrade process, and I have to reboot the system, and manually fix the packages... if I succeed rebooting.
Note that after the first locale process I kill, there are (parentless) localedef process running amok that prevent further locales - until a reboot.
