Ubuntu (Hardy) installation fails for certain localizations

Bug Description

The Ubuntu installation is not able to complete. Tested product: Ubuntu Hardy 8.04.1 alternate CD amd64.

When selecting French (francais) -> Canada and keyboard Canadian the local environment variables are not set correctly and the installation fails reporting errors like:

 Cannot find /lib/modules/2.6.24-19-generic

Restarting the installation process selecting English US -> USA it works fine.

So the installer did warn you as follows:

  Proceed with installation to unclean target?

  The target file system contains files from a past installation. These files could cause problems with the installation process, and if you proceed, some of the existing files may be overwritten.

It looks like you skipped past that warning, and this is one of the resulting problems it warned you about. You need to format the target partition.
