Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

I can't add feeds using an external program unless xulrunner-1.9-gnome-support is installed.

Using ubuntu 8.04.1

I get the following error in the error console twice:

Error: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80570016 (NS_ERROR_XPC_GS_RETURNED_FAILURE) [nsIJSCID.getService]" nsresult: "0x80570016 (NS_ERROR_XPC_GS_RETURNED_FAILURE)" location: "JS frame :: file:///usr/lib/firefox-3.0.1/components/FeedConverter.js :: FRS_addToClientReader :: line 415" data: no]
Source File: file:///usr/lib/firefox-3.0.1/components/FeedConverter.js
Line: 415

Installing xulrunner-1.9-gnome-support (or firefox-gnome-support which depends on it) fixes the problem.

Steps to reproduce
Ensure xulrunner-1.9-gnome-support is not installed
Open firefox
Navigate to a feed (e.g. http://newsrss.bbc.co.uk/rss/newsonline_uk_edition/front_page/rss.xml )
Subscribe to this feed using "Choose Application"
Choose a feed reading application (e.g. /usr/bin/liferea-add-feed if you have liferea installed)
Click "Subscribe Now"
The feed is not added to the feed reading program.

Note: I can run liferea-add-feed fine from the command line.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Could you try to reproduce the same with Ubuntu 8.10 or 9.04? Thanks in advance.
