Bug Description
Using Hardy 2.6.24-19-generic x86_64 kernel on AMD2 Desktop PC. I've recently been having problems with my old DVD Rewriter which was PATA, so I decided to replace it with a SATA drive. As soon as I insert a DVD into the drive the system reboots. If I check the same DVD in Windows XP SP3 it works fine. I've looked at the logs and there doesn't seem to be anything mentioned when (or as to why) the system reboots in Ubuntu. The LiteOn LH20A1S11C DVD drive is recognised by my bios and works with CDs. Hardy has been re-installed since I fitted the drive.
Instead of putting the DVD into the drive during a running Ubuntu session I left it in the drive after accessing it through windows. The boot sequence freezes after 'Starting Hardware abstraction layer hald' is displayed. This DVD works in a laptop with Gutsy Gibbon.
A list of all my hardware is attached taken from the command line 'lshw'.
It's definitely the drive (or configuration) that's the problem. I've tried using Gutsy 64 bit kernel 2.6.22-15-generic on my desktop and get the same result - a reboot when a DVD is put in the drive. When the PC reboots I cannot remove the DVD and have to shutdown the PC. When I power up the PC I can then remove the DVD from the drive.
