Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Could you try to reproduce the same with Ubuntu 8.10 or 9.04? Thanks in advance.

I was able to get caps to show on the sphere plugin, using the drivers from the intel-gfx-testing PPA.
I'll check later to see if I can get the caps through the regular cube plugin.

+1 for the bug.
I'm using compiz in ubuntu 8.10 on gnome. Everything is freshly updated and I can't set a top or bottom image for the cube, even if I take a small one.
The top and bottom are black, with the transparency which was defined.
ATI 9600 with fgrlx. A 9400gt in a few days, I write here again if it's different on Nvidia.

This bug is not really important because you can set these caps by using the deformation plugin and unset every deformation.

Thanks a lot to everyone for contributing to the free and powerful Linux world ! ;)

I'm using Jaunty with UXA now, and the caps to the sphere show fine... not sure about the cube specifically. I'll check that.
