Bug Description

I think it would be better if the awn calendar applet would use the date format YYYY/MM/DD because this is more international (and also the format used by launchpad itself).

The point is that most Europeans would use DD/MM/YYYY but Americans would use MM/DD/YYYY. It is my experience that YYYY/MM/DD is understood by both because it sort of descends from abstract to specific.

Of course, Jan/Feb/Mar/Apr...etc. would be even clearer but that's already in the calendar icon itself.

Right, I agree. The American way, although what I naturally am used to
being American, is ambiguous for others and inferior in the sense that
you can't usefully sort by date in that (note that it matters in this
case). Putting the year first clears up any ambiguity and it is more
international.

Yeah, that's another option. I'll probably go with YYYY/MM/DD.

Fix committed in revision 1415. Translators can choose the appropriate format for their locale.
