Bug Description

Problem:
I have a wireless network which I have to configure manually (no DHCP).
So I also have to type in the password. (The WLAN is WPA-PSK secured)

But this password does not get saved because after reboot I have to type in the password again.

OS: Ubuntu Hardy 8.04 (i386)

Only in very rare cases I get logged in into the wireless network after reboot.

But I could not figure out when this happens.

My network card is:

I am using a DELL Latitude D830 laptop.

This is the syslog using this command:
tail -n0 -f /var/log/syslog > /tmp/syslog

I started the log after booting (when showing the login screen) in tty2.

Then I logged in (into Ubuntu; again I was not connected to the WLAN).
Then I opened the nm-applet and typed in the password.

(I have marked that point in the log).

To solve this bug I had to insert these lines inside /etc/rc.local

ifdown wlan0
ifup wlan0

Seems that the settings in /etc/network/interfaces are written after the
wireless network card has already be set up.

So the settings are accepted after a restart.

I don't think it's a problem that the password is longer, it just gets converted into hexidecimals. I just checked this with intrepid which has an option to show password. I still don't understand why doesn't the wifi work sometimes.

I think the passwords shouldn't be so much longer after all. There is something wrong here.. This bug needs more attention.

What additional information can I provide to solve this bug?

My password is not that long as seen in the screenshot.

I think these are the hexadecimal values of my password.

Seeing that 8.04 is an LTS release, shouldn't this bug also be fixed there?
