Bug Description

Binary package hint: linux-restricted-modules-common

I'm just doing a review of all the packages in Ubuntu Netbook Remix and their licenses. I noticed that /usr/share/doc/linux-restricted-modules-common/copyright does not exist. We need to add a copyright file to this package to state the license under which it is distributed. Apparently the same package in 8.04 has the same issues.

$ ls /usr/share/doc/linux-restricted-modules-common/
changelog.Debian.gz

Hi pgoodall,

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? (ISOs are available from cdimage.ubuntu.com)

If it remains an issue, could you also attach a new /var/log/Xorg.0.log?
Thanks in advance.

The output of lspci -vvnn would also be worth having.

Hi Bryce,

To be honest, I thought this would be an easy one to solve. I came across this issue when documenting the licenses for all the packages in Ubuntu Netbook Remix. I was merely alerting the maintainer of this component that they should have a proper copyright file identifying the license(s) for the components contained in this package. If they choose to not add that file, that is their prerogative. I think it should be done for good practice, and in some cases it may be a legal requirement to identify the license. In the end, IANAL.

This bug report was filed against an old version of Ubuntu.
Can you confirm whether this is still an issue in natty?

If you don't mind, it would be very helpful if you could update the bug
report in launchpad to 'Fix Released' if it is no longer an issue for
you, or if it is still occurring under natty, please tag the bug 'natty'
so it's easier for us to track.

We're closing this bug since it is has been some time with no response from the original reporter. However, if the issue still exists please feel free to reopen with the requested information. Also, if you could, please test against the latest development version of Ubuntu, since this confirms the bug is one we may be able to pass upstream for help.
