Bug Description

Upon enabling the "proposed" gutsy repository, Netx was added. When I went to the first Java-enabled page in Firefox, it brought up a dialog that asked me where to put the repository (defaulting to /tmp). However, the font in the dialog was blocky and un-antialiased and grainy.

uname -a
Linux 2.6.24-20-generic #1 SMP Mon Jul 28 13:49:52 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux

libnetx-java version 0.5-1

The dialog should just use the system font (if that's possible).

I'll post any other debugging information if you let me know where it is. Cheers.

I thought it was netx, but libnetx-java actually isn't installed? So I don't know what particular package this is from.

From /var/log/dpkg, the new packages are actually:

2008-08-13 12:57:43 status installed sun-java6-jre 6-07-3ubuntu2
2008-08-13 12:57:49 status installed sun-java6-bin 6-07-3ubuntu2
2008-08-13 12:57:51 status installed sun-java6-plugin 6-07-3ubuntu2
2008-08-13 12:57:51 status installed rhino 1.6.R7-2
2008-08-13 12:57:51 status installed openjdk-6-jre-lib 6b11-2ubuntu2
2008-08-13 12:57:56 status installed openjdk-6-jre-headless 6b11-2ubuntu2
2008-08-13 12:57:58 status installed openjdk-6-jre 6b11-2ubuntu2
2008-08-13 12:57:59 status installed icedtea-gcjwebplugin 1.0-0ubuntu7

I have no idea which one of them is actually the culprit.

Yes, the font looks ugly - also on my hardy machine.

But I don't think it's a firefox bug. Because you have openjdk-6-jre-headless installed on your system, I suppose openjdk is your default java. Try to change your default java to sun-java6:

update-alternatives --config java

Then try to run a java application like netx to see if the fonts changed. In my case all java applications have different fonts with Sun's java.

I going to file a bug report for the package openjdk-6-jre-headless.

OK, there is already an issue concerning the font problem of openjdk: see bug #234314
