Here is what causes the error:

Selecting previously deselected package emifreq-applet.^M

Same error and error message on ubuntu studio jaunty after trying to install the package via synaptic

when registered here I was using jaunty netbook remix, on sdb,
then I choose to use the simple ubuntu 9.04 (tryed kubuntu, but like sabayon is too slower on disk than in live), and is now working, on a 900, same error 2, in simple install

"The problem can be resolved by enabling 'Cool 'n Quiet' in the BIOS. I don't believe this te be a bud in emifreq-applet."

Thanks for your report. The package in question is horribly broken and has since been removed from Ubuntu and Debian. Therefor, this bug is being closed.
