Bug Description

I am running both hardy and intrepid on my computer. Running in Hardy, the card works fine. In Intrepid about 4 or 5 days ago I ran an update and the wireless card doesn't work. I suspect it is a change in the kernel.

Network manager icon does not appear in the bar in ubuntu and when I try and connect using the command line it doesn't connect.

Commands I typed :
{{{
ifconfig wlan0 down
iwconfig wlan0 essid 'senn09'
iwconfig wlan0 key "01020304050607080a0b0c0d0e"
iwconfig wlan0 key "00000000000000000000000000"
ifconfig wlan0 down
ifconfig wlan0 up
dhclient wlan0
}}}

This clip is from hardy ( dmesg ) :

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this bug as a bug in linux the kernel package in Launchpad.

It'd be helpful to know which kernel version you are experiencing this with. The output of the command 'uname -a' will let us know.

The kernel running is "Linux david-laptop 2.6.26-5-generic #1 SMP Sun Aug 3 01:25:54 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux" but I can not for sure say the problem is kernel related. The network manager should appear in Gnome whether or not the kernel driver is working properly, so let's start by pointing out the missing icon. I noticed the package was updated "2008-08-07 09:48:56 status installed network-manager-gnome 0.6.6-0ubuntu3", so let's start here. How can I debug this package and find out why it is not working?

I did some research and the package network-manager-gnome was not installed on my system. I think that an update must have gone 'funny' and the package was lost. I reinstalled intrepid freshly and the network is working again. Since I can not reproduce the error and the information in this ticket is not clear, I think it is best to close the ticket.

I have a Fujitsu Siemens Esprimo Mobile V6535 and had this problem
I tried all kinds of things with backports etc however when I finally looked at this:

and then download the latest HAL version.
Followed

to install it
and, voilà, after a restart it worked again :-)
