Bug Description

Binary package hint: compiz-fusion-plugins-main

The Enhanced Zoom Desktop plugin animates the desktop while the zoom level is being changed (e.g. Super+1 through Super+3, Super+Wheel). During this ~1 second animation, any attempt to move the mouse pointer is frustrated by an immediate return to its original position.

I’m using 0.7.7+git20080807-0ubuntu1 on intrepid amd64, but I’ve also seen this in several older versions.

Bug usually occurs just after boot to Gnome 2.24 Desktop = very random - about once every 6 re-boots

You must be referring to a different bug. This one is completely deterministic and reproducible, and is triggered by changing the zoom level in Compiz, not booting. You can file a new bug at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+filebug .

want to piggyback on this...as i think my issue is related. when using twinview on multiple displays, if i zoom in (using this same compiz zoom) i often times get "stuck." if i zoom in on my external screen, my laptop screen doesn't zoom in. if i move my mouse to my laptop (unzoomed) screen, the mouse then gets stuck indefinitely, getting reset to the right edge of the screen, making it impossible to unzoom.

so...i can confirm this behavior. if the cursor were unfrozen, the rest of my bug (async zooming) wouldn't be an issue because i could mouse back over to the zoomed in screen and zoom out.

Confirmed in Lucid on a T61 (Nvidia NVS 140m). Specifically, I'm affected in the same way as in CydeSwype describes in #3.

Sorry folks, but as part of the bug clean up ahead of 16.04 LTS I'm marking this as invalid because it affects an Ubuntu release which is now unsupported. If you can still recreate this bug in a supported release please do open a new bug and we can triage it for consideration in the 16.04 LTS development cycle.
