Tomcat can't connect to MySQL

Binary package hint: tomcat5.5

My ubuntu is 8.10. I found when I use /etc/init.d/tomcat5.5 start to start tomcat, it can not connect to MySQL. But if it starts from /usr/share/tomcat5.5/bin/startup.sh then it works well.

I have the same problem, jasperserver running well with startup.sh but FAIL if start tomcat5.5 with /etc/init.d/tomcat5.5 start.
Tomcat6 have the same broblem.

Could you provide more information on the problem, like the error message you get ?
Please explain how to reproduce the error, perhaps attach a minimal application that show the issue.
