Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome desktop

After installing Ubuntu 8.04 LTS (from disk) I lost the upper and lower menu bars. Right click in upper and lower window space brings no response other than the desktop "change desktop background" app. I have to "crash" out to shut down.

The description appears to deal with Gnome-desktop, not firefox.

Thanks for the correction phr0ze. I'm still learning Ubuntu but am determined to stick with it.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Please answer these questions:

 * Is this reproducible?
 * If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug?

This will help us to find and resolve the problem.

Changed in gnome-desktop:
importance: Undecided → Low
status: New → Incomplete

Sebastien, 1: I only wish I KNEW how I produced this problem in the
first place so that I could AVOID doing it ever again.

2: The only steps I took were to install Ubuntu following the
instructions on the disc.

I have found some solutions on line but they require entering an
instruction in "terminal". unfortunately I have no menu bar from which
to access "terminal.

Thanks for your concern.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue for you. Can you try with the latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.
