Bug Description
Binary package hint: openoffice.org
I have Ubtuntu set up on two computers and Spellcheck is not working in either one. And curiously, when I go to the Tools/Options in Open Office Writer, I find the language setting set to Czech(!) and I'm unable to change this. If I set it for English and close the window, it's back to Czech when I re-open the window. Something is very wrong here: a word processing program without a spellcheck is damned useless ... and why is my language setting permanently fixed on Czech???
Yours in frustration,
wordsmyth
P.S. What is especially puzzling is that spellcheck checked this communication! Curious and curiousier (it just checked that word with a red underline ...)...why doesn't it work in open office???
Thank you for filing this bug and helping make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, you bug report lacks some basic information which we need in order to look into your bug. While filing a bug please specify the release version of Ubuntu you are using and the version of the package you are reporting the bug against. You can find the version of the package either through Help > About OpenOffice or through the command apt-cache showpkg openoffice.org.
In addition please confirm whether you language setting is English and not Czech in OpenOffice. To do this, open the word processor, go to Tools > Options > Language Settings > Languages, where check "Default languages for documents", and "Western" option, which should be set to "English (USA)". You will also see a spell check symbol next to the language. This means that this will be the language used for spell check. Can you confirm that this is not Czech but English (USA). If it was wrong, please change it to correct value and verify whether the spell check works. Thanks in advance :)
