Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

The message below also occurs when a web site is blocked by the Chinese government (and probaby other censors either governments or companes). It would be useful if this sort of action was listed as one of the causes of failure to load a web page so that people don't waste time pursuing pointless courses of action:
=======================================================
Network Timeout

The server at www.thechinadebate.org is taking too long to respond.

The requested site did not respond to a connection request and the browser has stopped waiting for a reply.

    * Could the server be experiencing high demand or a temporary outage? Try again later.
    * Are you unable to browse other sites? Check the computer's network connection.
    * Is your computer or network protected by a firewall or proxy? Incorrect settings can interfere with Web browsing.
    * Still having trouble? Consult your network administrator or Internet provider for assistance.

Thank you for filing this bug.

Marking this as wishlist since this is a minor feature request.
The message already mentions that the time out may be because your computer is protected by a proxy, so that kind of describes the problem. Maybe the wording could be improved to accommodate for this situation.

Changed in firefox-3.0:
importance: Undecided → Wishlist
summary: - Erroneous error message in Firefox
+ Firefox should have separate message for timeout errors caused by
+ proxies
summary: Firefox should have separate message for timeout errors caused by
- proxies
+ censoring proxies

The request was NOT that Firefox should determine if this was the cause
and show it,
only that it should list it as one of the possible causes along with the
other possible
causes which are already listed.
