Bug Description

Binary package hint: xorg

After an xorg update to version 1:7.4~0ubuntu2 on Interpid I cannot get tilda to fill the whole screen. I can set the console size in the "Settings->Appearance" up to 90% of the screen. If I specify the console size in pixels I can set it up to 1270 (of 1280) and 790 (of 800) pixels.

This bug is still present in Interpid. It also appears on my second computer with 4:3 aspect ratio monitor. It seems it is resolution independent.

Hi dendron2000,

Please attach the output of `lspci -vvnn`, and attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log file from after reproducing this issue. If you've made any customizations to your /etc/X11/xorg.conf please attach that as well.

Somehow, it is fixed in the recent update. Great.

I don't know of any particular thing in xorg or xorg-server that could cause a client app to not fill the whole screen.

In particular, the 1:7.4~0ubuntu2 update did nothing that would affect the behavior of any client app.

I think this has to be either the window manager or tilda, not X.

Than how do you explain what I've experienced?

I first encountered this bug In Xubuntu 8.10. Then after one of xorg updates it was fixed. When I moved to Jaunty this bug was re-introduced, but tilda version stayed the same (see for yourself https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/tilda).

So what's different between 8.10 and 9.04: xorg, kernel, this bug

What's the same: tilda

Video drivers does not affect this, as I have this bug with 'nv', 'nvidia' and 'nouveau' drivers.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention xfce is different between releases, too. However it's not the window manager, as this bug is present with both compiz and xfwm4.

Bryce, you were right, xorg has nothing to do with this. I was so annoyed with this bug I downloaded tilda source code.

The problem is in tilda.glade file. Two GTK widgets for selecting windows size have the option "Page size" which is set to 10. If I set it to 0 I can finally select window size more than 90%. I don't know if the problem is with incorrect setting or it is a gtk/glade bug.
