Bug Description
Description:
Swiss knife of messaging protocols, the psyced implements ;
- 3 interserver protocols being PSYC, XMPP (Jabber) and IRC,
- 5 client protocols being PSYC, XMPP (Jabber) and IRC plus TELNET and WAP,
- scalable, distributed chat and messaging system
- Multicast capability i.e. the delivery of information to a group of destinations simultaneously
- a built-in webserver,
- SMTP gateway,
- encryption facility
- notification and social networking functions, all of which is only loaded when you need it.
psyced provides an API for writing customized chatrooms, which can be entered from any of the protocols.
Further XEPs not listed below: XEP-0178: Best Practices for Use of SASL EXTERNAL with Certificates. XEP-0185: Dialback Key Generation and Validation. XEP-0190: Best Practice for Closing Idle Streams. XEP-0212: XMPP Basic Server 2008. XEP-0220: Server Dialback. psyced also implements many functionalities in a PSYC fashion, which is unlike the equivalent XEPs, but may actually work, too.
PSYC has no central databases. It doesn't make a difference if a dozen or a billion people are using it at once. PSYC was designed to overcome the problems of existing technologies and does so with a radically new approach.
PSYC is a flexible protocol to set up a worldwide decentralized messaging infrastructure mostly for text-based conferencing (popularly termed chatting). It was developed with the goal in mind to provide a new interserver back-end for the Internet Relay Chat protocol, which had reached its scalability limits. IRC's form of multicasting has been generalized and extended, at the same time a decentralized structure has been adopted which empowers everyone to be his own server administrator.
