Bug Description

Binary package hint: nautilus-share

by default ntfs drives are in /etc/fstab with umask=007

this gives no read, no write, no execute permission to "others"

this means LAN computers trying to access files off your computer through samba cant read them, because they dont have permission

the folder gets shared (ignoring the couple of problems, ie you have to log out/in, and you have to add "usershare owner only = False" to the global section of smb.conf, or run nautilus with gksu) but then the files cant be read by another computer

solution: by default, ntfs drives entries in /etc/fstab should have umask=000. they are shared drives with no concept of permissions. they should be completely open by default. samba itself can then control what specific permissions LAN computers have on the files on these drives

note that the dialog like the one shown in this attachment cant hope to actually change the permissions as the permissions are control by the /etc/fstab file as whole drive permissions as this is ntfs/vfat

the permissions should be correct by defualt. this means they should be umask=000
