Bug Description

The systems stops working completely and the only way to solve is by power down the computer and the power on again. No entries appears in syslog and there is no predictable reason for the halts. They happen at any time, the system can halt from minutes since the power on, to 2-3 days, with or without heavy use of cpu or disks.

is this a brand new machine? We are going to struggle to get to the bottom of this one I think given the logs are empty, try the memtest boot option from grub, run it for an hour or 2, you are hoping for no red lines in the lower half of the screen. Try it with less RAM, as in only 2 sticks, I have seen machines not like the dual-channel memory on some types of RAM, see if there is any other similar reports on the ASUS forums. Try BIOS updates.

Is brand new, i had a problem with dual channel but the pc didn't start with it, the problem was bad cpu i replace it with another one (same model and clockspeed) and dual channel now works perfect. The memory passes memtest except the minimun 32 mb shared for the video card that memtest can't check but it should be ok.

I think i have duplicate a bug, the one about powernowd, I have stoped it and i will try to have it running one week without rebooting or something else.

Finally is a duplicated bugs, the problem is powernowd, should be solved, a computer can't be used with this, it corrupted some files on usb disks in my case because the systems locks.
