Can you please explain why the source package "cracklib2" (which is in main btw) needs a rebuild for the "cracklib2" transition?

AFAIK, the only package that needs a rebuild for the cracklib2 transition is cpu (per http://people.ubuntu.com/~ubuntu-archive/NBS).

Correction - this fails to build with glibc 2.8 in intrepid:
