Bug Description
Binary package hint: aide
on a fresh new ubuntu 8.04 lts x64 we installed the aide package:
ii aide 0.13.1-8ubuntu1 Advanced Intrusion Detection Environment - s
the daily cron task failed with following error:
****
* AIDE returned with exit code 17. Invalid configuration! *
****
Errors produced (3 lines):
46:syntax error:(
46:Error while reading configuration:(
Configuration error
End of AIDE error output.
according to http://<email address hidden>
seems that the package has got wrong permissions for some files, hasn't it?
after that, we receive the following error:
/etc/
/etc/
/etc/
the file /etc/aide/
##+# this needs to go in the package
!/var/cache/
#!/var/
/var/cache/
we will comment this file just to get aide running, but would be grateful if that could be fixed.

Hi Dieter,
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The permissions bug has already been reported and is a duplicate of bug 157858, so it is being marked as such. The subsequent error you're seeing about the syntax error is because I believe you've accidentally made /etc/aide/ aide.conf. d/31_aide_ apt-listbugs executable, as that's the only way I'm able to reproduce that error. If you are able to reproduce it without the execution bits set on /etc/aide/ aide.conf. d/31_aide_ apt-listbugs, please open a new bug about that specific issue.
Any further discussion regarding the permissions bug should occur in the other report. Feel free to continue to report any other bugs you may find.
Thanks again!
