Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

firefox 3, ubuntu 8.04: whenever i try to view the myspace page of ney york artist laurie anderson, firefox just shuts down without a warning.
This happens after a large part of the site has already been loaded and the media player has started playing.

On restarting firefox i get the choice to resume the unexpectedly interrupted session, but when i do so, same problem.

Trying to hit the interrupt button while the page is getting loaded does not help either. First the browser ignores the interruption request , and next thing is the shutdown.

So i have no idea which of the elements on mrs. andersons myspace page causes the crash.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Could you please try to obtain a backtrace by following the instructions on [WWW] https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MozillaTeam/Bugs, or upload (as an attachment) the crash report from /var/crash/.

Also, please answer these questions:
Is this crash reproducible? If so, which are the steps that lead to it?
Which flash package do you have installed?
Which Java package do you have installed?
Which Firefox extensions do you have installed?

This will greatly aid us in tracking down your problem.

Hello there!

Yes, the crash is reproducible, either by entering the following url:

http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=53465666

or by seeking and viewing Laurie Andersons MySpace page.

By the way, interrupting the loading does prevent the crash *sometimes*.
But if you reload the page firefox will shut down again.

Unfortunately I know almost nothing about programming.

My add ons for firefox 3.0 are
AdBlock Plus 0.7.5.5
and Ubuntu Firefox Modifications 0.5 Ubuntu Firefox Pack

The plugins are:

Default Plugin

Demo Print Plugin for unix/linux

DivX Web Player 1.4.0.233

Helix DNA Plugin / Totem 2.22.1 plugin

QuickTime Plug-in 7.2.0

Shockwave Flash 9.0.r124

Totem Web Browser Plugin 2.22.1

VLC Multimedia Plugin (compatible Totem 2.22.1)

Windows Media Player Plug-in 10 (compatible; Totem)

iTunes Application Detector

Themes:

Default 3.0.1

Where can I find out which Java Package I have installed? My Ubuntu (and
my experience with any kind of Linux) is only about six weeks old. I
guess I have the kind of Java that usually comes with Ubuntu 8.04 (?).

Greetings,
    Jörn

We were wondering if this is still an issue for you. Can you try with the latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.

This is fallout from the fix for bug 192888. You need newer libasound2, libasound2-plugins, and flashplugin-nonfree from 8.10.

The URL doesn't exist anymore, and even if it did, it would probably have changed, making the original problem unreproducible. And, after all, this version of Firefox is too old.
