Bug Description

Hi All
Jut installed KDE 4.1 on instructions here: http://news.softpedia.com/news/How-To-Install-KDE-4-1-On-Ubuntu-8-04-91034.shtml.

I found it covers the entire screen in 1280x1024 mode only. Monitor is Dell 2408WFP. In 1920x1200 mode the launcher panel appears 1/3 way up from the bottom, the wall paper also covers roughly about 2/3rds of the screen (not square but 16:10). The rest of the screen is a grey-white checkerboard pattern. I use the AMDCCCLE Catalyst 8.7. Works fine on Gnome.

8.0.4 Hardy 2.6.24-19-generic #1 SMP Fri Jul 11 23:41:49 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux.

In case you need to check it - xorg.conf. Works fine in gnome so no issues here.

Actually the wallpaper is 4:3 not 16:10 as you can see in the screenshot. My mistake. Also If I maximise a window, I can't expand its bottom below the launcher panel, but if its not maximised, I can move the window to the grey checkerboard area cutting across/through the panel. Attaching screenshot.

TIA

Hi gobbledegeek,

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? (ISOs are available from cdimage.ubuntu.com)

If it remains an issue, could you also attach a new /var/log/Xorg.0.log?
Thanks in advance.

The output of lspci -vvnn would also be worth having.

I don't want to upgrade to 8.10. I intended to stay on 8.0.4 LTS. Do you mean to say users who opt for LTS will not have their bugs fixed ?

The problem needs to be fixed for 8.0.4 without compelling users to upgrade. Please let me know if this is going to be fixed in LTS release.

I opened 4 to 5 bug reports in a week, and the lspci -vvnn is attached to one of the CRs in my name.

This bug report was filed against an old version of Ubuntu.
Can you confirm whether this is still an issue in natty?

If you don't mind, it would be very helpful if you could update the bug
report in launchpad to 'Fix Released' if it is no longer an issue for
you, or if it is still occurring under natty, please tag the bug 'natty'
so it's easier for us to track.

We're closing this bug since it is has been some time with no response from the original reporter. However, if the issue still exists please feel free to reopen with the requested information. Also, if you could, please test against the latest development version of Ubuntu, since this confirms the bug is one we may be able to pass upstream for help.
