bad utf8 support in valknut

Bug Description

I'm living in France and some letters (like 'é') are causing problems with valknut. For exemple, if a user is called "iré" : I can browse his files but if I wan't to put some files in downloads, the files won't download.

In my queue it is written "ir" (instead of "iré") and "user offline" whereas user is online. I have to rename manually the user in my queue if I wan't the download to start.

I think utf8 is badly supported : I'm using latest ubuntu breezy.

From: "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Direct_connect_file-sharing_application
The Direct connect protocol suffers from high bandwidth usage, unusual requirements for parsing, lacklustre internationalization support, and parts that seem to have been crafted to overcome network handling bugs in older versions of Microsoft Visual Basic (which NMDC was developed in)."

So I think Direct connect protocol is not UTF-8 aware.
Please follow http://dcplusplus.sourceforge.net/ADC-0.12.html
for a protocol that would fix that.

I am, after much hesitation, closing this bug because it is old, no one have confirmed it, and I tend to see it as a wish valknut would support UTF-8, and that I doubt the undelying direct connect allows it.

But feel free to reopen it if you can confirm on Edgy, or think I am wrong.
