I confirm this. I've installed the the new version from a debian package ( http://packages.debian.org/lenny/kcheckgmail ) and login works with the new 0.5.7.5.

This package has been updated in Intrepid (to version 0.5.7.5). Is it possible to backport it to Hardy? Also version 0.5.7.6 is available, should we wait for that to hit Intrepid?

Confirmed. We need a backport to hardy. This isn't a critical bug, but it is very annoying.

Marking as fixed, per comments. Note this is only in Intrepid and later (at the moment). If you would like this in Hardy, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuBackports#How%20to%20request%20new%20packages
