Bug Description

Binary package hint: xsane

I have a gt68xx based usb scanner. If, after plugging it into my 8.04.1 system, I run XSane from "Applications->Graphics->XSane Image Scanner" I get the following (less than helpful) error message:

Failed to open device `gt68xx:libusb:001:003': Invalid argument.

It is only when I run xsane in a Terminal window that I can see the much more useful error message:

[gt68xx] Couldn't open firmware file (`/usr/share/sane/gt68xx/ccd569.fw'): No such file or directory

Installing this file from the Windows driver disk allows me to use the scanner.

What I would have liked to have happen is that the dialog box with the "Failed to open device" message would have included the reason why (missing firmware) message.

Hi,

I have an Agfa SnapScan that worked fine under Gutsy.

Now I get the same gt68xx error.

Marking as confirmed, because of the first comment. Are you still having this issue?
