Bug Description

Hi,

I am using Kubuntu 8.04 and Firefox 3.0.1 with all default settings. I recently updated to version 3.0.1+build1+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.8.04.3 and I find that the font rendering is ugly for some "types" of fonts. This used to work fine in 3.0.1+build1+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.8.04.2.

Some affected sites:
http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/uiswing/
https://bugs.launchpad.net/

I am attaching some screenshots to show the difference. This happens only on font size 16 (the default). When I zoom one size in or out, it renders fine.

Thanks.

Alexander, dongrading the package to 3.0.1+build1+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.8.04.2 solves the issue. Is there any other package I must look into? Thanks.

I came across the same error, see attachment.
Running Ubuntu Intrepid, doing daily updates, the error appeared after an update of today or yesterday (i.e. 18.8. 19.8.)

I am sorry, but I should have commented that time itself. This is not a bug. The problem was solved that time itself, by doing "killall -9 firefox" and then restarting firefox. Basically the problem arises due to firefox not "rebooting" itself properly. The problem should go away if you restart your computer, too - if you have the same problem as I did. As far as I am concerned, this bug should be marked closed.

Tiefflieger, can you please try the solution I've said?

cool, thanks!

killall -9 firefox

did the trick. But as I rebooted my pc several times now and that didn't fix the bug I wonder if this bug shouldn't be kept open until the source for the problem is found?

I don't think it's a bug per se - Alexander Sack had told me it's just because pango can't find the proper font files after a firefox upgrade. Let's see what the developers have to say further :)

I was not using a LCD but 2 different CRTs.
Like I said the bug is gone :-) but in my humble opinion the source of the problem should be tracked down (i.e. why firefox was not rebooting properly) and be corrected - I believe that an easy working browser is crucial for an OS like Ubuntu

Thanks both of you for your help :-)
