++skin++ causes additional '__before_publishing_traverse__' activations

Bug Description

"++skin++XXXXX" traversal steps return the starting object as their result. This causes any '__before_publishing_traverse__' hook
of this object to be activated again.

Surprises may result when the hook does not expect to be
activated several times (e.g. when it sets a skin, the artificial second call annihilates the effect of the "++skin++XXXXX").
