Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

On the following two sites I'm able to get a reproducible SEGFAULT with Firefox 3.0.1 on Ubuntu 8.04.

http://robotgrrl.com/blog/2008/04/30/stanford-epgy-d/
http://www.kubiakhart.com/index.php?article=view&id=35

Firefox 2 doesn't seem to have this issue. I've disabled JavaScript and Java and still have the problem, and even in safe-mode the problem persists. I tried it on another Ubuntu machine and can't reproduce the problem. I'm new to the debugging and troubleshooting in Linux, not really sure what to try. No core dumped so I can't really rely on that. Not sure how to do a trace quite yet either... Any ideas?

Firefox package is 3.0.1+build1+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.8.04.3 0.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Could you please try to obtain a backtrace by following the instructions on [WWW] https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MozillaTeam/Bugs, or upload (as an attachment) the crash report from /var/crash/.

Also, please answer these questions:
Is this crash reproducible? If so, which are the steps that lead to it?
Which flash package do you have installed?
Which Java package do you have installed?
Which Firefox extensions do you have installed?

This will greatly aid us in tracking down your problem.

Is this on 64bit with nspluginwrapper or is this on 32bit?
I am unable to reproduce this with firefox version
3.0.1+build1+nobinonly-0ubuntu2

Please follow the guide given by Ara to try this with a new profile (its
on same page just above the back trace part.
Thank if that doesnt help please run Firefox -safe-mode and see if it helps.

I am fairly sure this is a profile problem. Ara are you able to
reproduce this issue?

Hm... it seems to have fixed itself as I updated to the dbg package of Firefox.
I had tried running it in safe-mode but that didn't help, neither did disabling Java or Javascript. Might have been a flash issue but that wouldn't make sense since flash hasn't been upgraded. Not really sure what the problem was but it's gone now. Thanks for your help!

Is there any disadvantage to running the debug version of Firefox?

Scratch that, I have the same problem I first described when attempting to login to Hotmail (http://login.live.com/login.srf?wa=wsignin1.0&rpsnv=10&ct=1217704358&rver=4.5.2130.0&wp=MBI&wreply=http:%2F%2Fmail.live.com%2Fdefault.aspx&id=64855). I actually got a gdb log as well, which I've attached. I'm able to faithfully reproduce it. I'll try it in safe-mode and on my other computer in a little while.

To reproduce I just load up Hotmail.com, type in username/password, and press return. Segfaults every time.

flashplugin-nonfree version: 10.0.1.218+10.0.0.525ubuntu1~hardy1+really9.0.124.0ubuntu2
sun-java6-plugin version: 6-06-0ubuntu1
Firefox extensions installed: Download Statusbar, FlashGot (disabled), FoxyProxy, Neo Diggler, Session Manager, Ubuntu Firefox Modifications, and User Agent Switcher

Would other plugins be helpful too?

Thanks Josh, that information will be very helpful.
One more thing, have you tried to run it with a different (brand new) profile?
