Bug Description

I'm using updated Hardy. I get disconnected from the internet when I plug my Fujitsu Siemens N560 PDA into an USB port to charge it.
I get these messages by dmesg:

[ 6799.003026] usb 1-2: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 2
[ 6799.201969] usb 1-2: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
[ 6800.231400] usbcore: registered new interface driver cdc_ether
[ 6800.381856] eth1: register 'rndis_host' at usb-0000:00:10.0-2, RNDIS device, 80:00:60:0f:e8:00
[ 6800.381897] usbcore: registered new interface driver rndis_host
[ 6814.900838] eth1: no IPv6 routers present

Then I have to reconnect to the internet and everything works fine again:

[ 6920.345475] usb 1-2: USB disconnect, address 2
[ 6920.347105] eth1: unregister 'rndis_host' usb-0000:00:10.0-2, RNDIS device

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have classified this bug as a bug in linux.

The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. There are one of two ways you should be able to test:

1) If you are comfortable installing packages on your own, the linux-image-2.6.27-* package is currently available for you to install and test.

--or--

2) The upcoming Alpha5 for Intrepid Ibex 8.10 will contain this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. Alpha5 is set to be released Thursday Sept 4. Please watch http://www.ubuntu.com/testing for Alpha5 to be announced. You should then be able to test via a LiveCD.

Please let us know immediately if this newer 2.6.27 kernel resolves the bug reported here or if the issue remains. More importantly, please open a new bug report for each new bug/regression introduced by the 2.6.27 kernel and tag the bug report with 'linux-2.6.27'. Also, please specifically note if the issue does or does not appear in the 2.6.26 kernel. Thanks again, we really appreicate your help and feedback.

I was wrong. I plugged it in the second time and all my network settings were lost. I had to set them again.

Hi Adam,

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux-image-`uname -r` 252111

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for reminding me of this bug.
Now it really looks like it's fixed. I connected the device 3-4 times and there was no interruption of my internet connection. Looks like this PDA is acting as a second network interface (eth1) and the network manager is able to handle it separately.
