Bug Description
I am not certain which of the packages was responsible for this, but they were all kernel related, there were no others in this group of updates.
My version info is:
Description: Ubuntu 8.04.1
Release: 8.04
Just after I rebooted after applying the latest kernel update on 07/25 (hardy) I now have this new proprietary driver showing up. It is listed in the proprietary drivers window as "w|" and the description just says:
"This driver is necessary to support the hardware, there is no free/open alternative.
If this driver is not enabled, the hardware will not function"
I had the "proposed" update box checked in my software sources, and have been informed that this is why I received this update.
The driver really should have something more than "w|" for a description. As it is, I have no way of knowing what this driver is for.
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at https:/ /wiki.ubuntu. com/Bugs/ FindRightPackag e. I have classified this bug as a bug in jockey.
