Bug Description

Binary package hint: cdrecord

I have recently installed Ubuntu 7.10 in testing hardware I discovered my cd rw had mounting issues, permission issues, and writing issues. My CD RW would not burn data or audio to a CD R. It will however, burn to a CD RW.

Media: Memorex and Verbatim CD R (52x 700 meg 80 min) disks failed every test to write to disk. Attempts were made to burn both data disks and audio disk to new CD-R's. All Serpentine and K3B attempts to burn a cd failed regardless of the format. I then attempted to burn on a rewritable disk. CD burned successfully on the first attempt. Memorex CD rewritable (12x 700 MB 80 min and 4x 700 MB 80 min) disks successfully recorded both data disk and audio disk.

The cd burner would not burn even a single small data file to disk. So I tried to burn audio with the same result. The following is data taken during two attempts to burn audio to a CD-R disk.

When attempting to burn disk in Serpentine, Serpentine locks up up at fixating disk.

Error Message says to try a lower speed. Serpentine program froze. CD would not eject. I had to reboot. Reattempts at lower speeds did not resolve issue.

K3B crashed while I was attempting to repeat burn session with a new disk.

K3b-The KDE Crash Handler reported:
K3B crashed and caused a signal 11 (SIGE0GV).
Said, the SIGEGV signal may be due to a bug in the application. (see http://bugs.kde.org)
K3b Backtrace read
This backtrace appears to be of no use.
This is probably because your packages are built in a way which prevents creation of proper backtraces, or the stack frame was seriously corrupted in the crash.

(no debugging symbols found)
Using host libthread_db library "/lib/tls/i686/cmov/libthread_db.so.1".

This was the debugging output from a successful k3b copy cd onto a cd rewriteable disk.

Although this was a successful burn K3B debugging noted usr/bin/wodim: Operation not permitted. Warning: Cannot raise RLIMIT_MEMLOCK limits. Is this a problem?

Also, I attempted to Launch the Bug Report Wizard from the Submit a Bug Report - K3b window. However, an error message appears stating, "Could not Launch the Browser. Could not find service, kfmclient.

The following was produced by the K3b Debugging
