Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

The page http://java.sun.com/developer/technicalArticles/javase/6u10_applets/ makes firefox unresponsive and uses 100% CPU.

Version: 3.0.1+build1+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.8.04.2

It seems to be caused by the Java Plug-in 1.6.0_06-b02. The page loads when the plugin is deactivated.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Could you try to reproduce the same with Ubuntu 8.10 or 9.04? Thanks in advance.

I am not using that version anymore. The issue disappeared with a newer version. The original version causing this problem is noted in the first comment.

Hi,

I have noticed a similar problem accessing http://www.1stcontactforex.com/ (the front page). This site uses both flash and java and just causes firefox to hang indefinitely. The java console is responsive but firefox is not and takes up 100% of the CPU.

I am using 1.6.0_14 (6-14-0ubuntu1.9.04) :

martin@marto: ~# sudo update-alternatives --config java_vm

There are 2 alternatives which provide `java_vm'.

  Selection Alternative
-----------------------------------------------
*+ 1 /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun/jre/bin/java_vm
          2 /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.5.0-sun/jre/bin/java_vm

##
In Firefox about:plugin shows:

Java(TM) Plug-in 1.6.0_14-b08

    File name: libjavaplugin_oji.so
    Java(TM) Plug-in 1.6.0_14
....
Shockwave Flash

    File name: libflashplayer.so
    Shockwave Flash 10.0 r22
