Bug Description

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

OpenOffice Impress 2.4.1 in Hardy loses images.
I noticed that about one images per day disappears from my presentation in odp.
There are about 50 images embedded into the presentation - half of them png, the other half jpeg.
The presentation was open for several days while my laptop was suspended to RAM several times a day.
When an image disappears, a frame and image symbol remains.
I also noticed, that these images also disappear from the .odp file.
Other images got corrupted over time. For example one showed horizontal red stripes.
When examining the .odp file I found the same corruption in the embedded image.
The order in which the images disappear seems to be random.
I haven't found any correlation with the import date, nor size or type of the image.

A few days ago I found out that one of my two RAM modules became defect.
After exchanging it the problem described above went away.

The reasons why I didn't find it earlier are:
1. When I first mem-tested the RAM about 1 year ago it didn't show any errors
2. In case of memory corruption I was expecting much more problems like system crashes etc., particularly since I was running Ubuntu in VMWare from Windows. However I only noticed occasional Firefox crashes and assumed Firefox being the culprit (beta version).
However, finally I also had a Windows crash and a few other things which made me suspicious.

So after all this was not an OpenOffice problem and the report can be closed.
