Bug Description

I have connected the HP LaserJet P3005 to the USB of a 32-bit laptop running Ubuntu Intrepid with HPLIP 2.8.6. The printer got automatically detected and set up by system-config-printer and hal-cups-utils, with the URI hp:/usb/HP_LaserJet_P3005?serial=CNK2N34563 and the PostScript PPD file from HP. The hp-toolbox shows the toner level correctly, only thing what does not work is printing. When sending a job to the printer the job stays in "Processing" state forever. The error_log shows "prnt/backend/hp.c 711: INFO: open print channel failed; will retry in 30 seconds...".

Additional info with a complete error_log is in the attached troubleshooting log file generated by system-config-printer.

When connecting the printer via ethernet it works perfectly with HPLIP. It prints and it also shows status and toner level in the HP toolbox. Configuring the printer with the web interface also works correctly.

There is only one small problem which can be a bug in the PPD but I am not sure: If one sets the printer via web interface or front panel to use Economode by default you cannot switch it to normal mode via the "Economode" option. Then the printer crashes and tells on the display that one has to switch it off and on again. With the printer-internal default of Economode turned off one can turn on and off the Economode with the "Economode" option without problems.

Error number of the printer crash is 49.0E00 according to the "Event Log" in the web interface of the printer.

My printer is connected to a box running Ubuntu Server 9.10.

I had this problem for months. I finally found a solution here :

https://answers.launchpad.net/hplip/+question/19901

When adding a new printer, I had 2 choices displaying an HP P3005. If I select the line

HP LaserJet P3005 USB *printer_serial_number* HPLIP (HP LaserJet P3005)

the printer stops printing after the first job, but if I select

HP LaserJet P3005 (HP LaserJet P3005)

I can print as many job as I want

I've tried three different "fixes" that I've found. Deleting printer and reinstalling via Server>Printer>New. Went to HP website and installed new HPLIP drivers. Restarted CUPS. None have worked. Now have printer installed twice, once via local host, once via Server>Printer>New. When I send a job to "both" printers, the local host printer gives me the perpetual "processing" message, but the Server>Printer>New printer gives me a "Not Connected?" message. But when adding the printer, both correctly identify the printer as a HP Laserjet 1000 printer. So how can it be a "connection" issue?

Hi,

i have also a "USB Connection failed" issue with my HP LJ P3015D on different distros (Mint, OpenSUSE etc), details on
https://answers.launchpad.net/hplip/+question/248736
it seems to be a HPLIP bug withe the P3000 series.

My workaround was - to delet the printer in Administration -> Printers
and reinstall it with "Add printer" - in Connection diolog you should chose connection via USB!
NOT via HPLIP!
