Bug Description

When attempting to do an upgrade this morning:

"Could not calculate the upgrade

A unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade.

Please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the following error message:
'E:Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, this may be caused by held packages.'"

The error message is repeatable by clicking "Check" in update manager.

Please get back to me if I need to provide log files or other information.

Thanks for your report. Can you please provide the output of the following command:

sudo apt-get dist-upgrade -o "Debug::pkgProblemResolver=1"

Thanks

I have attached the output of the command

sudo apt-get dist-upgrade -o "Debug::pkgProblemResolver=1"

Could it be because I did this at an earlier stage:

I was trying out schooltool and added the following to /etc/apt/sources.lst

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/schooltool-owners/ubuntu hardy main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/schooltool-owners/ubuntu hardy main

I then installed schooltool in this way:

sudo apt-get install schooltool-2008

Which was when I saw zope packages installed. If I uninstall schooltool (which I no longer need) and it's dependencies, and remove the repository will it solve the problem?

Yes, this is indeed the case. I've forwarded the bug to the schooltool project and closed the ubuntu task. Thanks for your report and investigation.

I think this should be solved now, though as I can't reproduce it - there is no way to check.

Brian Sutherland did some packaging changes recently, and I think he mentioned some fixes.

Maybe you still can reproduce it?

From the dates, I'm assuming seems that my fixes were the problem. But, I can't reproduce the the bug.

I got a similar problem when running a routine update.

I attach the last part of the output from
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade -o "Debug::pkgProblemResolver=1"

I am trying to solve it by
1. uninstalling schooltool2008
2. runnning the update
3. reinstalling schooltool.

1 and 2 are going on fine.
If a write no other post take for granted step 3 went well too.
