k3b after burning a DVD the drive fails to respond

Binary package hint: k3b

After Burning a DVD the drive fails to respond, the OS can no longer access the drive, to eject, read, etc. It is no longer listed in cdrecord -scanbus, and so forth. This does not happen when burning a DVD with Brasero... Seems someone else had a similar problem http://www.timhardy.net/wordpress/bytopic/howto/ and was able to establish a work-a-round, I have not been able to verify this the directions are a bit vague.

There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if you could test the current Ubuntu development version (10.10).
