Bug Description

When playing a movie then:
1) border stays (bug #81378) (in fullscreen)
2) a small white vertical line stays on top, and it dissapears only when I quit VLC and move something to damage that part of screen (nvidia, binary driver, amd64 smp)
this white line is above everything else on the desktop (in windowed mode) so it acts like a popup window or something

Hi, you reported this bug a while ago, and we are wondering if this still is an issue for you?

Yes, on up to date ubuntu 8.04 (amd64) the white line is still visible, in left-top corner (around 10 pixels downwards, starting from x=0 y=0)

Hi,

now we need to figure out which package is responsible. Is this a problem with vlc only? Does it appear in totem or mplayer?

Please find and attach the following files (after reproducing):
* /var/log/Xorg.0.log
* /etc/X11/xorg.conf
* ~/.Xsession-errors (hidden file in your home directory)
* Screenshot or photo

Also post the output from the following commands:
* uname -a
* sudo lspci -vvnn > ~/250182_lspci-vvnn.txt (find the file in home dir)
* apt-cache policy vlc
* xrandr

Run vlc in debugging mode. For Intrepid this is "vlc -v2", i'm not sure if it is the same in hardy. You can check that with "vlc --help". Then reproduce, copy and paste the output to a text file and attach.

Thanks in advance

Only in VLC
In both windowed and fullscreen
For any movie I tested (not depending on format or size)
In both wxWidget default GUI, and the other one (Skins)
Removing ~/.vlc does not help

The line is also in windowed mode, and then it covers anything else on the desktop, so it acts like a popup window sort of
(but it is permanently there).

This problems happens always.

The exact same things happens when using... Audacity (sound editor). Strange...

Probably GUI related?

Audacity and vlc has at least one thing in common - they are qt-based. So if this is a bug in qt only, the same bug should appear when using mplayer and other qt-based apps as well. Can you try mplayer, and kid3?

I use KDE for my WM.

Neither kid3 nor gmplayer nor other ~30 programs I use cause this effect.

Only audacity and vlc so far. Each time. Also on other unix user (other settings etc).

Does changing window decoration theme change the appearance of the white lines?

A photo or screenshot showing the problem could be very helpful in understanding the issue, can you attach them for both vlc and audacity?

It is identical for this 2 programs at least.

I think wxWidgets is the common dependency between them.

The white line is always in left-top corner (position 0,0) and it covers whatever is below (in this screenshot - cornerr of firefox window). It covers even full-screen-top windows (like in example full screen mode in said VLC).

Attached image has the same iamge zoomed in x10 for clarity, and all on green background.

There have been a large number of bugfixes with the latest VLC release, 1.0.0~rc2-1ubuntu1. Can you reproduce your issue with this latest version? You can test this in Ubuntu Karmic, or Ubuntu Jaunty with the MOTU Media PPA at https://launchpad.net/~motumedia/+archive/ppa . Thanks in advance.

This bugs seem to not happen nowdays for me. Perhaps it was some bug in wx lib (used by audacity and vlc)
