Bug Description

Binary package hint: pidgin

Description: Ubuntu 8.04.1
Release: 8.04
pidgin:
  Installed: 1:2.4.3-0ubuntu1~hardy1
  Candidate: 1:2.4.3-0ubuntu1~hardy1
  Version table:
 *** 1:2.4.3-0ubuntu1~hardy1 0

     1:2.4.1-1ubuntu2 0

I expect to be able to remove buddies as I chose. Instead, when I remove a buddy, an error message appears on restart "buddy synchronization error" for each buddy I have ever removed. Also, some "leak" and get reestablished onto the list anyway.

I can't duplicate this bug. Seems to work fine here, both with MSN and Gmail accounts.

Sorry I'm a noob. Then is there any other info I need to attach? A config file, error message file?

Anyway here's a picture of the behavior. Notice how many error windows are piled up at the bottom.

What sends these error messages, and is there any way I can have them automatically answer "no"? They are quite annoying and if anyone is willing to find out how to tackle it for me I'd be most grateful.

I had the same problem and after much fooling around I found on my system it was caused by the evolution integration plugin.....how I solved the problem

1) delete the ~/.purple folder (after backing up the log subfolder to keep all my old recorded conversations

2) restart pidgin, setting it back up the way I like, without evolution integration

and then closing pidgin and copying the log subfolder back into ~/.purple

then start the program again....no problems here now

I assume the buddy list sync problem had to do with old msn address' being saved in evolution

Thanks a million for your response! Yes I was able to fix it finally. I simply disabled the evolution integration plugin, and the problem disappeared. Thanks again!

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Could you try to reproduce the same with Ubuntu 8.10 or 9.04? Thanks in advance.

As an additional note....I just realized after messing things up again, you don't have to delete the whole .purple folder, just the file inside it "blist.xml"

I haven't upgraded to 8.10 yet. I'll be upgrading to the next lts package when it comes. The bug is with the evolution integration plugin. After disabling that Piding worked fine again.

Now there's a new bug...after the release of the new MSN, MSN usually only works on XP and won't log me in from Ubuntu. And that's the weird thing - it will actually log me on 1 in 20 times. That's all the feedback I have at this point. Big thanks!

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Please answer these questions:

 * Is this reproducible?
 * If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug?
 * Could you try on jaunty?

This will help us to find and resolve the problem.

The buddy synchronization error is now fixed by simply disabling the evolution plugin. The inability to log in a few months ago was fixed by using MSN pecan. I'm not willing to try Jaunty, as moving to the last non-LTS release (Intrepid) has been a nightmare. Being suddenly without sound, no Skype etc. has not been fun. I've been troubleshooting these problems for week in and week out, and finally have sound (though not simultaneous) and Skype (only audio). Not in the mood for Jaunty!
