Bug Description
The init script shipped in the nvidia drivers package goes through and creates /dev/nvidiaX and /dev/nvidiactl using mknod and chgrp. These actions appears to be unnecessary.
As a mild experiment, take a system with a functional nvidia setup.
1) Stop X
2) rm /dev/nvidia*
3) sudo startx
Look in /dev/ and you will see that these device objects are created automatically by the nvidia kernel module. The permissions are adjusted by /etc/udev/
