Bug Description

I have upgraded from Hardy Studio to Intrepid Studio, and have all updates as of 17-july-2008.
I keep an open internet connection and have installed gnome-network-manager on my machine.
Was working fine until this morning.

susan@ubuntu:~$ ps -eaf | grep nm-applet
susan 5885 5784 0 07:04 ? 00:00:00 nm-applet --sm-disable
susan 7517 7482 0 07:22 pts/1 00:00:00 grep nm-applet
susan@ubuntu:~$ ps -eaf | grep NetworkManager | grep -v NetworkManagerDispatcherroot 4739 1 0 07:02 ? 00:00:00 /usr/sbin/NetworkManager --pid-file /var/run/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.pid
susan 7551 7482 0 07:23 pts/1 00:00:00 grep NetworkManager

The applet no longer appears, and my wireless must be started manually.
I should also mention that both the wireless and GDM functions hang for a long time when I boot.

I am sorry for sending the whole dmesg log. If there is anything I can do to help, please let me know.

I too have this bug. I am unable to provide full logs as I am currently mobile, but I can provide snippets if I can be told where to look.

I installed Intrepid standard (not 64bit) and updated it fully last night, when I powered on this morning the bug occurred. Perhaps forcing a version of a particular package will be a temp fix?

I have since managed a work around.

1. Identify the pid of nm-applet and do 'kill <pid number>'
2. Run nm-applet with sudo/root (sudo nm-applet)

If you run nm-applet as a standard user it outputs something about insufficient user privileges. I can provide this output if it would help.

This worked for me briefly and then vanished.

I can confirm that the bug is fixed on my machine.
As I reported the bug, may I suggest that it can be closed out?
