Firefox steals window border events!

Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

What did you guys do? This is similar to bug 230382. Firefox comes up full screen, but no borders show and I can't resize window. Also I lose both window task bars. The only way I can see anything but firefox is to quit fire fox! I'm using Ubuntu 8.04 and the latest update seems to have screwed things up. I guess at this point my best bet is to get rid of firefox 3 and back up to firefox 2. Use 'lsb_release -rd' or System -> About Ubuntu'?? Crap -- I can't even get out of firefox.

ProblemType: Bug

Ok -- now I'm confused. This problem seems to have gone
away, but I uninstalled Firefox 3.0 using synaptic and
installed Firefox2 but when I start Firefox and check the
version using help->about it says it's using
Gecko/2008061015 Firefox/3.0.

Please check if you have compiz enabled if so please disable it and see
if you can reproduce it than. This sounds like a problem i saw in compiz
a while ago.

did you uninstall firefox or firefox-3.0 im betting one of those is
still installed. When you say the problem has gone do you mean with
firefox 3.0or even 3.0.1

Hi John

I'll look at this some more this afternoon. I uninstalled
using synaptic but the application wasn't removed for some
reason. I uninstalled a second time and the second time it
was gone.

I don't use compiz so that wasn't the problem. I'm one of
those people who likes a simple interface.

This afternoon I'll re-install and see if I can recreate the
problem.

Thanks
Steve S.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Could you try to reproduce the same with Ubuntu 8.10 or 9.04? Thanks in advance.

Hi Pedro

I hate to admit it but I haven't booted up Linux for several months now.
The environment is changing so quickly I can't keep up with it and
there were so many architectural changes going from 8.04->8.10 I felt
overwhelmed. I've dropped back to XP on a netbook although my main
applications are all open source.

I have the problem on after a upgrade from hardy to intrepid. I use compiz, when i start firefox with
firefox --safe-mode and reset toolbars and controls, it works the next time.

This worked for me:

1. Disable Compiz
2. Close and open Firefox (the borders should appear again).
3. Enable Compiz
4. Close and open Firefox (the borders should be still there).

I rebooted the computer to see if It still worked and yes... they were there.

I just had this problem, and it seems to be the Legacy Fullscreen Support in the Workarounds of Compiz. disabling it fixed this problem, and re-enabling it makes the problem come back 100% of the time.
