I know nothing about this subject, but I searched a bit. As far as I can see there is no standardized DTD for graphXML yet (according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GXL)

I found this DTD from Stichting Mathematisch Centrum (Stichting Mathematics Center) from year 2000 http://hypergraph.sourceforge.net/graphs/GraphXML.dtd

You might want to add a bit more information about what you're expecting to see happen so us normal people can follow the bug.

Duncan, this is a xml format we're using in our visualization and graph tools. We called it graphxml, but it isn't related to GXL (as far as I'm aware). However, the information you posted is interesting. I wasn't actually aware of research in this area.

Andrew, this is more your territory, do you have anything to add?
