Bug Description

When clicking on "Advanced Options" in the "Gerneral" Tab of the "Desktop Effects" part of systemsettings. I get a configuration window.

Clicking "OK" in this window freezes my computer if I have touched any setting in this dialog. It does not seem to mattter which of the settings I change, it always freezes the box.

This might be a issue with the graphic driver: I am using a laptop with a ATI Mobility FireGL V3200 graphics card which is really badly supported in the free drivers (and not at all in the proprietary ones). Intrepid brings a new and improved driver for the card, maybe that is to blame here.

Using kdebase-workspace as package for now.

I think we are facing 2 issues here:
1) X shouldn't freeze when trying to initialize and 3Dish
2) KWin should blacklist that card/driver (I think there is some black/whitelist implemented somewhere)

The blacklist is only for compositing. (I believe we are using compiz's blacklist.) In any case, a backtrace from when /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old would be needed. (Crash X, then reboot and attach the file) Also, are effects on when the hang occurs?
