Bug Description

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

I've seen similar bug reports to this, but each of the others I've found (77441, 133532, and 193097) have been listed as "Fix Released".

I am unable to create a new document from template. Any and all attempts to do so, result in OOo crashing.

File -> New -> Templates and Documents

This then brings up a window entitled "Templates and Documents - New Document".

Selecting anything from the left hand pane (New Document, Templates, My Documents, or Samples) works properly.

However, attempting to select anything from the resultant middle pane instantly crashes the application. And opens the "OpenOffice.org Document Recovery" window.

This is on a fully updated Ubuntu 8.04.1 32 bit installation.

Does installing the 'openoffice.org' meta-package resolve the problem for you?

No, that package is and has been installed. Attached is a list of all installed packages with openoffice.org in their name.

Does moving and/or removing the ~/.openoffice.org2 directory resolve the problem? It may be some sort of user configuration issue.

Thanks,

Chris

Nope. I've completely deleted the directory (with no OOo apps running), same results.

Does switching to sun-java6-jre or openjdk-6-jre help resolve the problem?

Tried both sun-java6-jre and openjdk-6-jre, no change. Still getting the same immediate crash. Changed the JRE, closed all OOo apps, restarted oowriter and attempted selection.

Confirmed on Ubuntu 8.0.4.1 w/OO 2.4.1 (latest from Ubuntu repos.)

Tried the following unsuccessfully:

- Update JRE to 1.6.0_06
- Renamed ~/.openoffice.org2
- Reinstalled openoffice.org metapackage
- Uninstalled openoffice.org-report-builder

I also checked hardy-proposed for updates, no dice.

Thanks,

Are you using any accessibility features?

I saw a related bug report that appeared to happen only when accessibility features were being used.

It is possible that an accessibility feature was active at the time, though I can't say for sure. I do know that they are now disabled and I am able to utilize templates. Though I have also upgraded to Intrepid at this point.
