Ubuntu 8.10 Alpha crashes after login

Bug Description

I usually test the alpha's through either VMWare Workstation or Virtual Box and up until now I have had no issue. The install goes smooth and I reboot enter my username and password and then it crashes with a blank screen and noise coming from the speakers. I have found a workaround and that is to install 8.04 and update it to 8.10 and when I get the option in Grub, I choose the 2.24 based kernel as it seems to be issues with the 2.26 based kernel that 8.10 is using. This happens with both Alpha 1 and Alpha 2.

This appears to be a duplicate of bug #245888 - please confirm that the problem is: after you type in your username and password, the desktop starts to load, but all you get is a white screen.
