Bug Description

Using Ubuntu Hardy 8.04.1 amd64
Nautilus: 2.22.3

To test, at a nautilus window, goto Edit->Backgrounds and Emblems. Press "Add a new pattern" and add some 1024x768 sized image. Set the image as folder background by dragging it to the folder.
See screenshot for clarification.

Looks like http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=492529 / https://bugs.launchpad.net/nautilus/+bug/191220 again; we may have fixed this in GNOME 2.24/Ibex already as it doesn't present here even with an image as big as the screenshot attached to this bug. (Soren Sandmann has been hacking on the background code specifically, see http://svn.gnome.org/viewvc/eel/trunk/eel/eel-background.c?view=log ).

Can anyone else reproduce this on Ibex?

I just tested this on Ubuntu Intrepid. I was able to reproduce the bug, but not to the same extent as Sayak. For me, I had a vertical stripe of the background become distorted on the far right side. Attached, you will find a screenshot of nautilus.

does anybody still get the issue described there and could give details on how to trigger it in hardy or intrepid?

I am still able to reproduce this bug in Intrepid with nautilus version 1:2.23.5.1-0ubuntu2. The steps to reproduce the bug that are listed in the bug description are still valid. One thing I did notice, was that the background only becomes distorted when nautilus is maximized.

not confirming on intrepid, did you try there? it could depend of the image, could you attach an example to the bug?

I am running Intrepid Sebastien. I have been able to reproduce this bug with any 1024x768 image that I have tried. Have you tried maximizing nautilus while you were trying to reproduce the bug?

Here is a 1024x768 image that I found on Google: http://jiiprahmail.googlepages.com/ubuntu_tribal_1024x768.jpg. I was able to successfully reproduce the bug using that image.

yes I've been maximized the nautilus dialog to try but that doesn't trigger the bug there, could anybody having the bug open it directly on bugzilla.gnome.org which is the right place for upstream bugs? it's better if the bug is opened by somebody who gets the issue and can reply easily to their comments

I'm able to reproduce this with Intrepid maximizing the window or scrolling with both actions the background gets distorted, I've open a bug at http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=546250 ; thanks all.

I just witnessed similar corruption on Hardy. I was using an xpm image.
The corruption occurs on a directory with as many files as will cause
nautilus to display a scrollbar. When scrolling down, the area becoming
visible has the corruption (side note: I have nautilus' content zoomed to
67%).

Remedy: convert the image to jpg.

Only thing is: I was surprised the image scrolls, along with the content;
that is -- it's unlike a fixed background in your browser. Make that a
feature-request. ;-)

In my previous comment I reported that using a jpg-image fixed the background
image distortion.

I have to take that back. The distortion still occurs when scrolling down, even
with a jpg.

the issue should be fixed in intrepid and jaunty closing the bug, you can reopen if you still get the bug after upgrading though
